KG : EXTRA PRACTICE
You will see some sheets marked as SUPER followed by the subject name. Those are extra practice sheets for home. Do not send them back to school.
- So ENGLISH sheets are done in school. SUPER ENGLISH sheets are done at home.
- MATH sheets are done in school. SUPER MATH sheets are done at home.
- INTELLIGENCE sheets are done in school. SUPER INTELLIGENCE sheets are done at home.
In addition to this, there are also some quizzes that we are putting up for the students on Walmiki. These are revision quizzes and give a lot of practice to the students. It is a quick way to go over the material in a fun way and hassle free way. The quizzes are really short - only 5 questions each and take less than 2 minutes at a time. There is a huge database so each time you take it, you get a different set of questions to work on.
Classwork
The worksheets have many questions. Some are done as classwork and some are assigned as homework. You can get this information in the WalSh App in the Curriculum Updates. There are many extra Questions on the worksheet too. Those can be done at home, if you wish, for practice. These are NOT to be submitted in school.
Written Homework
Teachers expect the homework to be done on the day it is assigned. Written homework has to be submitted back for correction and the deadlines must be followed by the students.
At Walnut, we teach a little everyday and do activities and exercises based on that immediately. We do not wait for the whole lesson to be over before starting exercises. If students do the homework sincerely, they get to quickly revise what was done in school and will be able to receive the next day’s lesson in a better manner. It also helps the teacher understand how much the student has learned.
In higher classes, homework may require students to record an audio clip / a video / complete a Google Form or an escape room as a homework assignment. Again, students are allowed to refer to their books and material. The only condition is that they should use their own brain! :)
If homework is done sincerely, then in the lower classes our students don’t really need to do homework + studying. The way it is done in Walnut, homework = studying. Please let the students do the homework on their own. Do not give out the answers or have a tutor do the thinking part for them! We will talk about the benefits of this routine separately.
The students are told the homework questions in the class. They are also seen on the WalSH app when you refer to the Curriculum Map. Refer to the tutorials shared HERE to understand how to use WalSH to do this.
Being regular in homework submission and doing a good job on it is important. The teacher makes a note of the homework submitted, its completeness, its neateness, whether the answers were mostly correct or mostly wrong. And all those get added up to homework marks which are a part of the formative assessment. Missing a homework submission when actually absent is okay and accepted and not penalised.
Std. 1 and 2 do not have compulsory written Homework. There are a lot of extra sheets and exercises given that students can use for extra practice at home. The compulsory homework starts from Std. 3.
You can see the amount of expected written homework in each standard.

Walmiki Quizzes (Test Bytes)
Students have Walmiki quizzes to be solved at the end of each lesson. This is to be done at home. For these, they have to log in to the Walmiki app. These are a part of the continuous evaluation process and are added to the formative marks on the report card. It is okay for students to treat this as an open book test. The idea is that they should go through the material properly and understand the questions and answer properly. Do note that this is a part of homework and has to be done on the day that it is assigned. Check this article on Test Bytes under the “Examinations” Section to understand more about them.
