Requesting division changes

At Walnut School, divisions are randomly allocated at the beginning of each academic year and remain fixed for the year.

We understand that parents may sometimes hope for a particular division. However, being placed in a different division can often be a positive experience for students. It allows them to meet new classmates while continuing to interact with their existing friends during recess, sports and other school activities. Over time, this helps children build a wider circle of friends across the entire standard.

From Grade 6 onwards, students also experience differential learning. For core subjects and sports, students are grouped according to their learning needs and abilities. This means that students naturally interact with different groups of classmates for different subjects, further expanding their peer network.

Because of this structure, the division itself is only one of the many groups a student is part of during the school day.

If, after the first couple of weeks of school, you feel your child is still finding it difficult to adjust to the division allocation, please do let us know. We would be happy to observe the situation and support the student through counselling if required.
