How to study everyday
What Changes in Std. 9?
Till Std. 8, students are used to defined homework, limited daily workload.
From Std. 9 onwards:
- There is no defined "homework" or "homework time"
- Studying is not task-based, but learning-based
👉 This means students must revise and practise everything taught in school every day
What students should do after coming home
- Revise Class Learning : go through worksheets, textbooks, read and practice exercises on what was taught that day. So basically read the part that was covered from the textbook, read that part from the worksheet, solve the questions - that will help you remember.
- File your worksheets and corrected tests properly.

Maintaining files properly is important. Teachers ask for them periodically to go through. There are internal marks reserved for this. - Use Walmiki :
- Solve MCQs : when the whole lesson is over (very important – ~25% of the paper). They are often concept-based and tricky. Students must practise regularly, not just before exams. When you are doing it in practice mode, you can actually treat it like an open book test. It really helps with overall revision.
- Use Flashcards : These help with more exposure to descriptive questions and their expected answers. The worksheet has limited questions. The flashcards have at least double if not more. And we keep adding more from time to time.
- Prepare for Try-a-Tests (Chapter-wise Tests) : These are for every subject now. They happen immediately after a lesson. Multiple subjects can have tests on the same day. Daily studying is the only way to manage this comfortably.
Now, if you look at this you will see that students should be spending at least 2:30 to 3 hours studying sincerely everyday. If no time is wasted there is enough time for play and sleep. So, put away those smartphones and things start falling into place.
Continuous Preparation is Necessary.
Students must stay prepared across subjects at all times.
In Unit Tests too, the portion plays out differently. The portion is communicated to the students. But, there are usually some lessons from earlier taught units. So that adds on in the unit test preparation. Without daily consistency, this quickly becomes difficult to manage.
Daily Consistency Matters
Think of it like a cricket match. If the required run rate is not maintained from the start, pressure builds up and becomes difficult to manage later.
👉 From now onwards, life works the same way:
- Daily effort keeps things manageable
- Delays lead to overload and stress
- Daily discipline cannot be and should not be considered as stress. Daily discipline helps to actually avoid stress.
So do note that from Std. 9 onwards, the homework tab is not the main driver of studying. It will not list everything a student needs to do. Students must take ownership of revising daily, practising independently, using available resources effectively.
Key shift in Std 9 (and life beyond that) is about
- consistency over intensity
- daily revision over last-minute study
- understanding over completion
Students who stay regular will find this manageable.
Those who delay will find it piling up quickly.
