Std. 5 Academics

In Std. 5, learning is designed using a combination of NCERT textbooks and Walnut Special lessons. This means that not all lessons taught in class will directly match the textbook table of contents. This can be a little confusing for parents, so here is the detailed breakdown and explanation.

There are two types of lessons:

a) NCERT-based Lessons : Taken from textbooks

  • Teaching is totally aligned with textbook chapters
  • Textbook + worksheets together = complete learning
  • Additional multimedia material in ebooks on the app

b) Walnut Special Lessons : Additional lessons designed by the school

  • Not present in textbook contents
  • All required explanations and practice are provided through worksheets shared in class and additional multimedia material in ebooks on the app

Subject-wise Explanation

  • Mathematics :
Regular mix of NCERT textbook and Walnut Special lessons. We do not really require students to refer much to the textbook for this as the worksheet has more and better exercises than the textbook.
  • Science :
Units 1–2: Walnut Special. Unit 3 onwards: NCERT textbook. All required explanations and practice are provided through worksheets shared in class and additional multimedia material in ebooks on the app.
  • Marathi :
Prose and poetry: From textbook. Grammar, Comprehension, Creative Writing: Walnut Special. All required explanations and practice are provided through worksheets shared in class and additional multimedia material in ebooks on the app.
  • Sanskrit :
Based on the Deepakam textbook, but each chapter is broken into smaller modules. This is done because a single chapter includes multiple grammar concepts. The sequence of teaching remains the same, but it is taught in smaller, structured parts for better understanding. So the chapter names that you see on the worksheet will not match the ones in the textbook.
  • Social Studies :
    World History, Economics: Walnut Special.
Geography, Political Science, Economics: From textbook.

How To Use the Textbook?

  • Useful for prose and poems of English and Marathi
  • Can be used as additional reading material for other subjects
