What parents can do
What Parents Can Do
Most parents have the same concern:
👉 "We only see our child in the evening. What are we actually supposed to do?"
The answer is not teaching. The answer is monitoring + structuring + nudging consistency.
Focus on Small Daily Check-ins (10–15 mins is enough)
You do not need long study sessions with your child.
Instead, aim for:
- Short, consistent daily conversations
- Focus on what was done + what is next
What to Ask Every Evening
Keep it simple and consistent:
- What was taught today?
- Which subjects have Try-a-Tests coming up?
- What did you study today? How? Can you show me today's work?
- Did you practise anything on Walmiki?
👉 Over time, this builds accountability
Use Walmiki / WalSH as Your Visibility Tool
You do not need to guess. You can see actual effort.
What you can quickly check (even from your phone):
Walmiki MCQs -
- Has your child attempted quizzes? How many? What scores?
WalSH -
- What was taught today?
- When was the last Try-a-Test? Scores?
- When is the next one expected? Preparation?
- You can see the features of the app and the tutorials on how to use them HERE
Walmiki Flashcards -
- You can't really "track" any student activity here, but it has a lot of descriptive questions. Almost 2x of what is on the worksheet or more.
- You can guide them towards making the best use of this amazing database for better preparation.
Simple ways you can make use of the Walmiki MCQs
You don't need complex systems. Just a few clear expectations:
✔ Daily Practice Rule
- "At least 3 quizzes per day" (can be from any fully completed lessons)
✔ Accuracy Rule : ideally full marks but if not then,
- 5-question quiz → at least 4 correct
- 10-question quiz → at least 8 correct
👉 Treat quizzes like open-book practice. The goal is learning, not guessing.
- Each lesson has many questions (50–70+)
- Repeating quizzes is useful:
- Some questions repeat
- Many new ones appear
👉 This builds depth + familiarity
Make sure you Track Try-a-Tests
- Try-a-Tests happen immediately after lessons
- This is the smallest portion a test can have - just one lesson.
- Corrected papers are returned in a few days
What parents should do:
- Ask to see corrected papers
- Check:
- Where marks were lost
- Whether mistakes are understood
👉 Analysing the test is more important than just marks. Read more about that HERE.
Your Role as a Parent
Make the kids build a simple daily timetable and have them stick to it.
As a parent, you are not expected to teach concepts or solve worksheets.
You are expected to:
- Ensure daily consistency
- Check actual effort (not just time spent)
- Create a routine and discipline
For all the tests that the students solve, are they processing the answer sheet properly?
👉 Read more about that HERE
Avoid
- ❌ Waiting for exams to start preparation. Daily consistency is important.
- ❌ Asking only "How much did you study?" They should be able to show you something.
Std. 9 is where:
- Habits are built
- Discipline becomes critical
- Independence starts
Small daily effort = manageable workload
Delayed effort = overload + stress
